Cane Creek Mountains Poster
This project was given to me during my college courses. We were tasked with making a travel poster for Alamance Parks & Rec. The poster had to be about any Haw River Park park of our choice located in Alamance County, NC, which I frequented often.
There was one park I hadn’t been to before on the list, so I chose to research and make my poster about that park, Cane Creek Mountains Natural Area. I started by researching the park itself, getting the location and then going to visit.
Throughout my visit I was met with a lot of wildlife, specifically deer, bees, and a lot of squirrels. Cane creek mountains also offered an uphill climb on a dirt path to the closest thing this part of North Carolina has to a “Mountain”. That mountain was surrounded by firn trees, and other types of vegetation. Not only did I stay to watch the sunset, but I started to see the vision of the poster come to life in my head. I then looked at different designs of travel posters and references before sketching out some ideas. I knew I would be using Adobe Illustrator to design because that was a requirement of the project. Before going into illustrator I wanted to get a sketch and idea of the design on paper first, so I wasn’t blindly designing I do this with every single project during the planning phase.
The final design turned out very close to the sketch I made. It contained all of the elements I wanted to include during the planning phase. After submitting this poster for my project, it was selected by Alamance Parks and Recreation to be printed and sold in the Alamance Parks Gift Shop. It was also featured on their social media along with some other posters created by other students in my classes
